Galveston is the closest beach, not the nicest, but it is a beach. Air temperature was 92 and I am willing to bet that the water was the same temperature! Humidity no doubt, the same 92. The trick to staying cool was getting completely wet and letting the hot breeze evaporate the water off of our bodies. We learned this from Charleston, SC. If you are hot off the beach you sure as heck are going to be hot on the beach!

Not only did we get to drive and park on the beach (very handy to back in and use the tailgate for shade and there was no hauling beach chairs and crap). There was also horseback riding available. Very cool in the fall I am sure but not in the sweltering heat!
Ok, the horses were a nice surprise. The kickers were the flamingo the kids saw wading in water on the side of the highway and the cattle grazing in a field darn near on the beach.
We had a great time and are going back this weekend. Steve and Tristan are planning on some sport fishing and Annie, Aidan and I will no doubt chill at the hotel pool or melt on the beach.
